A Course in Weight Loss – Let’s Get Started!

We are excited to get started with this book study and hope you are too! We are seeing a personal trainer, but realize that we need to address the spiritual and mental along with the physical aspects of weight loss to make it a lasting change.

In our first video we talk about why we want to study this book, what you can expect throughout the study. We are going to let Spirit to lead this study and will spend the time we need on each topic, but will try to the keep the videos to 15 minutes or less each day.

It takes awareness, understanding, knowing, and then moving this to our subconscious mind to make any lasting change. This is NOT a diet. We have been dieting all our lives, and that has not helped us surrender the weight.

We want our weight and money to be just like breathing air. We don’t want to have to think about it.

The physical body is a mirror of what’s going on in the inside. The outer world is a reflection of the inner world. The inner world is the cause and the outer world is the effect.

It’s not just about the numbers – the scale, the calories, etc. – it’s about the spiritual cause underneath. We discuss why we over-eat: to distract us from our pain; because we love food; and because of the things we’ve been taught.

Love, joy, freedom and pleasure are sustainable. Fear is not. Diets are about what you can’t have or what you MUST do. It puts us into a lack consciousness.

We also talk about how so many of us have been sexually abused which helps us to build a protective armor around us in the form of excess body weight. We are ready to let go of those issues and allow our natural state of inner peace.

Your assignment for tomorrow, should you accept, is to read through the forward and the introduction of the book. We will discuss the introduction tomorrow. We feel there is valuable information in there.

Here’s today’s video. Please share your insights about the forward below and invite your friends to join us in the study. It’s never too late to start.

In addition to today’s video, we want to share the food challenge that we are starting today as well. It’s only a 10 day challenge and it’s about eating healthier. It’s not a diet, just a challenge to be better to yourself. Here’s the bonus video about the challenge.

For 10 days:

  • Eat more lean meats
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Eat more nuts and seeds
  • Drink LOTS of water
  • Eat fewer artificial sweeteners (user honey or real sugar instead – fewer diet drinks or flavored waters or sugar free gum)
  • Eat fewer starches and sodium (bread, potatoes, white rice, etc.)
  • Eat fewer processed foods (in a box, can, or package)
  • Eat less sugar
  • Write down everything you eat!

My Fitness Pal is a tool we use to track what we are eating.

  1. Vivian Miller says

O.k. I am starting today. I will do this for ten days and see what happens. I am so tired to toting around near 300 lbs of weight. It is affecting my knees, ankles and back. I can do anything for ten days. I was married for 25 years so I know I can do this for ten days.

    • This was a beginning step to shape our minds around weight loss and has led us to the loss we are seeing now. Let me know how I can support you on your journey!

  2. {{{sigh}}} aaaaahhh – I’ve missed y’all!
Finding my bootstraps…looking forward to following along with this awesome encouragement. I feel very much like I am ahead of the game. Randy keeps me mindful and healthy for the most part. I already drink Only water – or juice. We bought a juicer for Christmas and have been juicing everything in sight. Every night it’s something we do together – and we love it and all of the awesome benefits! We already only use honey as a sweetener in our coffee. We have given up the box and the can and focus on fresh and frozen. I will have the occasional “insert something bad here” – but feel empowered that as a majority I am trying to behave – and am for the most part. Hey, it’s a start! However, it IS Friday – and I am about to indulge in a White Mocha from the coffee shop downtown. I LOVE what you said, Cindy – If you have a bad day, you grab chocolate, if you have a great day you grab chocolate. Haha – gotta love a multi-purpose reward! Love y’all – great work 😉

  3. Yes! Let’s get at the root of all this extra stuff around our waistlines!!!! I’m thinking you are on to something with the focus on lack with the usual diets. Tell me I CAN’T eat chocolate and I’ll respond by proving to you that I can! It’s time to try something new, something focused on what we gain while we are releasing the baggage. Alright girls…. Here we go!!!!

  4. It is interesting……I am a pretty healthy person, however I have some serious body image issues and issues with food. I am always going off sugar–its a real problem for me, it will be controlled then I will completely binge. But bigger than the sugar is the body image stuff. At Edwene’s it was really “up” for me–I could see that my thoughts about my body and myself over the course of my life, since probably age 11, have really held me back, and I made a commitment to myself that I am going to love myself and put this to rest. I think that if I really love myself I will be a better mother, friend and partner. I have been practicing thinking loving thoughts to myself, replacing all negative thoughts. My main reason for wanting to explore this book is to cultivate a love of self. I think that if I can really love myself then it’s possible that my food issues will resolve and also the body image stuff. ( I have been a traveling fool the last two weeks and just got back from a 12 hour drive from Michigan—-I am exhausted, so hopefully this is coherent!)

    • I am so glad that you are walking with us on this journey Heather. I applaud your courage to join in and to share your struggles with us. It is easier to look at our dark places together. One of the reasons that this book is so appealing is because it has nothing to do with the food and everything to do with our attitude about ourselves and the food. I agree with you, once we look at and address the underlying issues, our body issues will resolve themselves!
